Wow. I just came across the finest list of street artists on the Brooklyn Street Art blog. This will be tremendously useful in identifying these li’l pranksters. I saw Anera on there with a direct link to endlesslove.com, though no other mention of Anera once I got there. When I looked up “Anera” on Google, I found ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid). Just tried “Anera sticker” and found something called Stickerthrow! 2004 with Anera listed as one of the artists, tho no other link to this sticker artist. This is the sticker I found in NYC, November 2004.

Published December 23, 2009 "The Process is the Product" , Berlin , Stickehs Leave a CommentWith a little time off from work, I can begin research on the Berlin stickers gathered in November. My plan is to spread them all out (hundreds), sort them by subject, Xerox them (until they can be scanned and added to the database), and begin research in earnest. Hot dog!!!!
Shepard Fairey

Stroke.02: International Urban Art Fair, May 2010, in Munich. Must go.
The dominoes fell, and so did I. A rainy night, hundreds of people, and umbrellas everywhere made it difficult to see the ground, and I slipped off a curb. I now have a Botero foot and knees–puffy! It was okay. The crowd was chaotic.
Berlin was absolutely fantastic. I met up with Ollie at the Hatch Kingdom and hope very much that I can show my sticker exhibition there next spring. It will need to be updated since the exhibition originally showed at SLU in 2006. It was also really nice to hang out with SLU alum, Spencer Homick. I told him he has good sticker stamina (unlike someone else I know!)
Each day, I gave myself a goal to travel to new neighborhoods, which usually involved negotiating trams and subways that require tricky cards that vary by hour or day and have to be authenticated before you board. It was interesting to see how sticker content varied from one area to another. Kreuzburg especially focused on issues of race/ethnicity and immigrant populations. Antifa stickers everywhere. Several stickers at the Neurotitan entrance focused on anti-US politics. I can’t wait to go back next spring. Berlin has a great sticker and street art scene, more so now than NYC, which is too bad since I get to NYC quite often.
I’m still trying to get a handle on the concept of antifa. It seems like it covers so many different issues. Maybe antifa could be equated with the notion of resistance and class struggle in general, beyond anti-fascism in Germany, though it’s not all that useful to describe anything like this “in general.” Dunno. I’ve now bookmarked International SPIEGEL to keep up more closely with German politics.

For real. Submissions are being accepted now, and judging begins on October 1st. The winner will be announced on October 31st and will get all kinds of sticker prizes and 15 mins of fame.
I’ve had this sticker on my desk for weeks, and only today did I put 2+2 together to see what is being represented: guys (I assume) in hoodies. All of a sudden, I realized they look like some of the punks I see on other antifa stickers. I found the translation for stromausfall to be “blackout.” Major DUH on my part, but the sticker is superb. (It is especially Duh since the reproduction here below is so obvious!) Oh well.

WordPress is acting up. Two minutes ago, I can’t type. Now I can.
I’m overwhelmed by how much work I need to do with the Posse database and Stickerkitty blog. Lately, I’ve been wondering what will be my Life’s Oeuvre (har-de-har) and alas, it sure won’t be Guernica. Aside from my super-fantastic job at SLU, which I L-O-V-E, it will be the Posse digital collection. As far as I can tell, it is unique. Yay.
Oh wow. I am going to meet Matt Siren next week for an interview/chat. La la la!!!!

Catching up.
Published June 11, 2009 "The Process is the Product" , Stickehs , Street Art Leave a CommentMy blog stats are jumping. I think I had 8-10 hits this past week.
Anyway, I am finally starting to buckle down and work on the Stickerkitty has a Posse database, with help from Kevin, Tsewang, and Nathan–the crack team from last summer. May drag Caleb into this, too. I have a few hundred new stickers from Berlin to add.
Here is a photo of the entrance to the Anne Frank Zentrum in Berlin. Right next door is an amazing bookstore and gallery called Neurotitan. I bought one of the We Dream of Meat plushes there. Turns out they are more difficult to find than I expected.
